Welcome to our Eco Schools web page
Barnabas Oley CofE Primary School is proud to be an eco friendly school both inside our classrooms and outside. Our Eco Council meets regularly to plan activities and undertake projects to educate the children here at school.
Eco Schools is an environment education programme and is managed in England by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, the anti-litter campaign for England. Eco-Schools is an international award programme that guides schools on their sustainable journey, providing a simple framework to help make sustainability an integral part of school life. There are 9 key areas of Eco-schools;
- School Grounds
- Healthy Living
- Global Citizenship.
Our eco committee meet twice a term with Mrs Mansell, our Eco Coordinator. The committee includes pupil representatives from each class. Keep a look out on our eco notice board in school for minutes of all our meetings and upcoming eco events.
Our current focus is our new environmental area, our Eco-Park which will include a quiet space for prayer and contemplation.
We have many ongoing whole school initiatives such as paper and plastic recycling and litter picking. Our school took part in the Switch Off Fortnight and made signs to remind people to turn off lights and computers to save electricity.

In Science Week we had an Eco-fashion show, where each class made an outfit for their models using recycled materials. The idea for this came from the Bishops' lent challenge and 'The bottle movement'.
We work hard on our outdoor learning environments to create colourful, exciting and interesting areas that provide habitats for wildlife and where we can grow our own fruit and vegetables. It's also lots of fun!
