2015-2016 Funding

Pupil premium rates have remained the same for 2015/16 - £1300 per child. Adoptive premium is £1900 per eligible pupil. A proportion of this funding has been used to train a Teaching assistant and the SENDCo on ELKLAN training. The fund has also been used to pay for a TA to support pupils with Early Literacy and Numeracy skills. A proportion of the funding also goes towards subsidizing the costs of trips for eligible pupils. We are also hoping to use some of the funding for curriculum enrichment to match the interests of entitled pupils but also benefit their peers.

2014-2015 Funding

A proportion of this funding has been used to train a Teaching assistant on a new Maths intervention programme ‘Numbers Count’ that will support children with additional needs both in KS1 and KS2. The funding has also been used to purchase Maths and Reading resources to support pupils with Early Literacy and Numeracy skills. Sets of Reading books for reluctant readers and extension readers for younger able children have also been purchased.

A proportion of the funding also goes towards subsidizing the costs of trips for eligible pupils.

Under revised Ofsted Inspection Schedule we are now required to publish the impact of Pupil Premium spending on Pupil progress.

All pupils eligible for pupil premium spending during the last academic year made expected or more than expected progress. 

2013-2014 Funding

Pupil Premium is set for £4500 for budget year 2013-14, based on the eligibility of five pupils @ £900 per pupil. A proportion of this funding will be used to train a Teaching Assistant on a new Maths intervention programme ‘Every Child Counts’ that will support children with additional needs.


  • Parents of vulnerable children are invited to attend regular consultation meetings with the teachers to discuss ways to accelerate progress. Teaching cover is sometimes required for this time.
  • Regular targets are set and communicated with pupils and parents so that they are able to support the progress of their child.
  • Vulnerable groups are given clear steps to move forward, on a daily basis, through Assessment for learning.

Meta-Cognition and Self Regulation Strategies:

  • This is used during pastoral lessons such as PSHE to help vulnerable children gain awareness and develop strategies to improve their approach to learning.
  • Self esteem is linked to this approach, so the children are given many responsibilities, such as  School Council leader, House captain, as well as being given opportunities to tell others of successes during Celebration assemblies.

Peer Tutoring/Peer-Assisted Learning:

  • During lessons, this approach is used within the class to increase peer tutoring and learning, as the children listen with respect and tolerance to the views of others.
  • Paired reading occurs in classes and across Key Stages, on a weekly basis to provide an opportunity for peer-assisted learning.

Early Years Intervention:

  • EYFS and other groups have been screened to identify vulnerable groups and are supported in class, through targeted intervention and additional support each week by an additional part-time teacher.

1-2-1 Tutoring:

  • Lessons have been timetabled to allow individual tutoring for vulnerable groups throughout each day.

Information Technology:

  • A significant amount of money has been spent since September 2011 to purchase individual laptops for all children in order to allow them to develop ICT skills and to use IT as a tool across the curriculum.
  • Subscription to Espresso and Abacus Maths Zone (direct link on this website) enables all pupils to access exciting safe online learning activities either at school or at home to further their education.
  • We plan to purchase i-Pads this year to further improve access to the internet for all pupils whilst enabling all pupils to become confident using current technologies.


  • The homework policy has been revised since September 2011 and agreed information shared with Parents to make homework expectations clear. Children take great pride in their Pick n Mix books and enjoy selecting activities that support and extend their classroom learning.
  • A parents page and pupils page on the website contains direct links to many sites with additional learning opportunities and guidance to support parents in understanding curriculum areas as well as pastoral information.

Parental Involvement:

  • Parents are invited into school for workshops, special assemblies and major events such as the Summer Fete, Harvest Festival, the Founders Day Celebration with a Fellow from Clare College, Cambridge, and all children take part. Many parents join our very proactive PTA which has been instrumental in organising additional events for the children, such as a trip to the O2 Arena, Stibbington World War 2 experience as well as raising funds to purchase new equipment for the school - the new adventure playground is a wonderful addition to the outdoor facilities and all children benefit tremendously from it.

Sports Participation:

  • All children take part in Sport, twice a week during school time and learn key skills of team work and fair play.
  • Each half-term there are many additional sports activities and competitions. Pupil premium is used to enable all pupils to be transported to relevant competitions where the need arises
  • All children participate in swimming on a weekly basis in the Summer and early Autumn term.

Additional Events:

  • Pupil Premium has been used to facilitate special days such as a Viking Day to allow the children to learn about key history information, and Clay days to develop art skills.
  • Susidised residential trips have been organised to allow the younger children to spend an adventurous two days at Grafham Water.


  • The feedback from parents has been positive. All Parents invited to attend pupil meetings have attended consistently throughout the year and have fed back positive comments to the teachers.
  • Attendance at school has been very good (96.4%) and the children have been enthusiastic about the extra learning opportunities provided.
  • There has been progress made in ‘narrowing the gap’ which is monitored through Pupil Progress meetings every half term.

2012-2013 Funding

At Barnabas Oley C of E Primary School the total allocation for the financial year (2012/13) was £2400. This was calculated from the number of children who have been eligible for free school meals over the past 6 years, with an initial amount of £600 allocated per child.

At our school, this money has been used to fund additional Teaching Assistant hours to support one eligible child and to supplement costs of the Grafham Water residential visit as well as additional curriculum enhancements such as the Clay Day and the History Off The Page visit. This has enabled us to the extend the learning opportunities for those eligible children.
